1926 Skate For Alzheimer's
1926 Skate For Alzheimer's
Toronto's Backyard Rink at Nathan Philips Square Toronto City Hall
Since 2012 I have been honored to skate on behalf of all the families battling with Alzheimer's and Dementia in Canada.
So far I have skated 36 events in Canada over the past 13 years each lasting for 19 hours 26 minutes on behalf of the year my mother Eunice McNeil was born and to honor her 20 year battle with Alzheimer's.
I have spent 693 hours on the ice outdoors in some of the most beautiful places in Canada raising thousands of dollars for Alzheimer's society .
I have had the pleasure of meeting Canadians from coast to coast from every walk of life and some celebrity's from the hockey world the music world the sports world and yes the political world showing up in sometimes some very harsh weather conditions from extreme cold to pouring rain blizzards like conditions and even above 0 degrees conditions.
Now in 2025 I have decided to skate one more time December 15th 2025 Sunday night at midnight 12:01am I will step on the ice in Toronto at Nathan Philip Square wear it all started and I will skate for Alzheimer's one last time and I will be telling the story of how 1926skate started why it started and what drove me to accomplishing some of the challenges that I faced since 2012.
I have started working on the book and the documentary film telling the story of How the 1926skate marathon skating events started and how after 13 years I have come to realize how much my skating events helped my own mental health.
This is a story about taking a bad situation and turning it into a good situation hence the title of the documentary
FROM BAD COMES GOOD
Now in 2025 I will be retiring from Canada Post and focusing on doing some public speaking engagements and podcasts on Bullying in the workplace to try and help people who find themselves in what seems like a nightmare they thought only happened to other people and to help corporations bring a positive environment to the workplace.
I will also be spending some time talking to young people about my fundraising experiences and how I was able to get the fun part out of fundraising both on and off the ice.
